How to: Open a file saved in a different format in Excel.
Solution:
Select 'Open...' from the 'File' menu. Select the type of the file to be opened from the 'Files of type' drop-down list. Specify the location of the file. Select the file and click 'Open'.
1) Select the 'File' menu and select 'Open...'. (The Open dialog box appears.)
2) Select the type of the file to be opened from the 'Files of type' drop-down list.

NOTE: The following types of files can be opened in Excel 7.0 without any intermediate translation steps by the user: Text files (.PRN, .TXT, . CSV), Lotus 1-2-3 files (.WK*), QuattroPro/DOS files (.WQ*), Microsoft Works 2.0 files (.WKS), SYLK files (.SLK), and Data Interchange Format files (.DIF).
3) Select the drive that contains the desired file from the 'Look in' drop-down list. (A list of all the folders and files within the drive is displayed.)
4) (Optional) Select the folder that contains the file.
5) (Optional) Click 'Open'.

NOTE: If the desired file is in one of the subfolders, repeat steps 4) and 5) until the name of the file is displayed.
6) Select the file. (The file is highlighted.)
7) Click 'Open'. (The file opens.)
